Tagaste Monastery is a community of professed religious united in fraternal charity, by faith in Jesus Christ, and by participation in the Mission of His Church. This community, animated by the spirit of St. Augustine and striving to live out his ideal, "anima una et cor unum in Deum," forms part of the Province of St. Augustine of the Order of Augustinian Recollects, rendering obedience to its Constitutions and its duly elected superiors.
Tagaste Monastery has been designated to serve as the major seminary of the Province of St. Augustine which is, according to the Plan of Formation, "the house of community dedicated to the human, religious and academic formation of the religious from immediately after first profession until the end of the formation period in its strictest sense " (P.F. 278).
This community, therefore, embraces the formation apostolate which constitutes a process which "strives to develop and strengthen the characteristics of our way of living the Gospels with the help of more experienced brothers and prepares for... future apostolate" (P.F. 278).
Out of this unified process, to which all apostolic activity is subordinate, an appropriate witness and program of evangelization is to be extended to those groups and individuals for whom a participation in the charism of the community would be beneficial.
