November 2 is the traditional date each year for the Universal Church to remember the faithful departed and to pray for their intention "in the sure and certain hope of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ". We as Augustinian Recollects set aside November 6 as our own special day of remembrance for all of our deceased brothers in the Order. The Recollect friars of the Eastern Region held a special prayer service at Ascension Cemetery in Monsey, New York on November 10, 2010 in conjunction with the monthly day of recollection.

Fr. John Gruben led the common prayers, which centered around Midday Prayer from the Office of the Dead together with hymns and intercessions. Frs. Charles Huse and Fredric Abiera then recited the names of all the deceased members of St. Augustine Province. Following the prayers and hymns and a few moments of silence during which all the graves were blessed, the friars returned to Tagaste Monastery to continue the day of recollection and to celebrated Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament followed by the customary convivencia and dinner. The day was inspired by the words we use to conclude notice of the death of one of our fellow religious: "May our union with our deceased brothers testify to the bonds of community among us."
