The Monastery celebrated Labor Day with an afternoon barbecue. Friars from St. Cloud Monastery in West Orange and St. John Parish in the Bronx joined the Tagaste community and enjoyed the chicken kabobs, hamburgers, and hot dogs that were on the menu for the day. Fra. Jorge Mateos was the head cook for the occasion and made sure everything was grilled just right. Special guests included Fr. Joe Gallardo (prior provincial) and Fr. Antonio "Joy" Zabala (new pastor of St. John).
After lunch, the "younger" members of the community—including the prior, Fr. Ramón Gaitán—took advantage of the good weather for a lively volley ball game... In the evening, the community celebrated the Mass of the Holy Spirit to officially open the fall semester. Fr. Ramón was the main celebrant and Frs. Frank Wilder and Fredric Abiera were concelebrants. All sang "Come, Holy Ghost" asking God's blessings on our students as they take up their studies for the new academic year, 2009-10.
