On Sunday, August 2, 2009, Tagaste Monastery held a celebration to honor those friars who were receiving new assignments after the recent Provincial Chapter. So it was a "bon voyage" for Frs. Frank Wilder and Marlon Beof, both of whom had worked at Tagaste for the last nine years: Fr. Frank as prior from 2001-2006 and as chaplain at Good Samaritan Hospital from 2006-2009, and Fr. Marlon as director of professed students from 2000-2009. Both Frs. Frank and Marlon were headed to Oxnard, CA, where they will serve, respectively, as assistant pastor at Mary Star of the Sea Parish and prior of St. Augustine Priory.

The celebration was also a "welcome" for Fr. Fredric Abiera, who had recently completed a three-year program in Augustinian Studies in Rome and was just appointed the new director of students at Tagaste to take the place of Fr. Marlon. About eighty people braved the very rainy weather to be present for the get-together, 12:00 – 2:00 PM, and to enjoy a light lunch of sandwiches, cake, and fruit punch provided by the Tagaste Guild. Special guests included Fr. Facundo Suarez, OAR (vice prior at the Augustinian Recollect house of studies in Rome) together with several family members, and Fr. Michael Wastag, O.Carm, extraordinary confessor for the house. The students sang several songs and everyone was entertained by a lively session of karaoke with a number of community members and guests impressing the audience with their singing abilities.

To complete the picture of new assignments at the Monastery, it should be mentioned that Fr. Ramón Gaitán was reappointed prior of Tagaste and Fr. John Gruben was newly appointed vice prior to take the place of Fr. Frank Wilder.

Our prayers are with all of our friars in new or continuing ministries!
