The annual family picnic sponsored by the Tagaste Guild, the Hispanic community of Sacred Heart, and Sacred Heart Parish was held on the grounds of Tagaste Monastery on Sunday, July 13 from 12 to 6 PM. The weather was beautiful, although quite warm. About 175 people were present for the occasion to enjoy the lively music and an abundance of food, including hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken, tamales, and paella; there was also a variety of soft drinks as well as watermelon and cookies for dessert.
There were games for the children including a water balloon toss that gave everyone a chance to cool off. Soccer matches were held throughout the afternoon, with several teams competing for trophies for first, second, and third place. A 50/50 was held together with a raffle for a number of prizes and gift certificates. The large grove of trees behind the monastery provided the ideal place to get out of the sun and enjoy a relaxing and fun-filled summer afternoon.
