Peggy Evans, president of the St. Pius X Guild, was honored at Tagaste Monastery on Sunday, October 7 with a special celebration on the occasion of her 70th birthday. A plaque expressing the appreciation of the Tagaste community for her many years of service was presented to Peggy by Fr. Ramón Gaitan, local prior, at the 9:00 AM Mass. Peggy, a commissioned Eucharistic Minister, assisted with the distribution of Communion. After Mass a reception was held in the Guild Hall. Light refreshments, coffee and cake were served. Peggy was joined by her husband Don, who was also given a plaque of appreciation. Some 75 people attended the event including 15 parishioners from Peggy's home parish, Ascension, in New Milford, NJ.
Peggy was one of the founding members of the Guild, which will mark its Golden Jubilee in 2009. She is an outstanding friend and benefactor of Tagaste, having served numerous times as Guild president or member of the council, and has always been in the forefront in helping to organize and carry out guild activities, which are fund-raising events for the monastery and have served as an ongoing support for the monastery and the students in formation in many ways
To all my friends and my family,
I was deeply moved by the outpouring of affection and prayers by everyone on the occasion of my 70th birthday. My family in Ireland was overjoyed that I was the first in the family to reach that goal.
Thank you all from the bottom of my Irish heart. The occasion will live in my memory forever.
God bless,
Peggy Evans
My God is no Stranger
I've never seen God, but I know how I feel-
It's people like you who make Him so real...
My God is no stranger, I see Him every day
In the faces of people I meet on the way...
He's the stars in the heaven, a smile on some face,
A leaf on a tree, or a rose in a vase...
He's winter and autumn and summer and spring-
In short, God is every real wonderful thing...
I wish I might meet Him much more than I do-
I would if there were more people like you.
