The Secular Augustinan Recollect fraternity of Tagaste had their annual end-of-the year excursion on June 30, opting this year for a visit to the military academy at West Point, New York. Some forty SARs together with Fr. Moriones, spiritual director, and several of our professed students made the one hour bus ride to the academy, which is located north of the Monastery on the Hudson River.
The day included a buffet lunch at the historic Hotel Thayer and a guided bus tour of the campus, where the participants became familiar with the history of West Point and the training of the cadets, many of whom go on to become leaders in our country's armed forces. Besides enjoying beautiful views of the Hudson and a great many impressive monuments, the SARs visited the museum which presents aspects of military history including armaments and uniforms from the middle ages to the present. The group returned to the Monastery in late afternoon, well satisfied with their day together.
