Erin go Braugh! Shamrocks abounded and everyone was 'wearin green' at Tagaste Monastery on Saturday, March 17, as the Monastery Guild held its annual St. Patrick's dinner dance in the new guild hall, 6:15-11:00 PM. By a happy coincidence this year's celebration fell on the actual feast day of the patron of Ireland. In addition, this long-time fund raiser returned to the Tagaste after being held for the last ten years at the VFW in Suffern.
The dinner included the traditional corned beef and cabbage, potatoes, and plenty of Irish Soda Bread, along with beer, soft drinks, coffee, and canolli cake. Besides door prizes, there was a raffle which included hand-made pottery from Dingle, Ireland (1st prize), a Hummel bell (2nd prize), $100 (3rd prize), and an original watercolor painting by Fr. Frank Wilder (4th prize).
Of course, there was plenty of time for dancing and socializing, and the group gave special recognition to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph DiBlasi, long time friends of Tagaste, who are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. Chairperson for the occasion was guild president, Peggy Evans, who, as usual, also baked all the soda bread. About 100 devotees of St. Patrick and Ireland joined the festivities. Fr. Michael Rafferty represented Fr. Provincial, Charles Huse-whose birthday is the feast of St. Patrick!-and accepted a birthday cake in his honor. Long live St. Patrick-even among the Augustinian Recollects!
