Restless Hearts. October-December 2006

VIGIL OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE
The Mass began at 11:00 PM, the chapel being decorated with a large tapestry of the "Patroness of the Americas." Fr. Gaitán, wearing a colorful serape-type vestment with the image of Guadalupe, and accompanied by Frs. Wilder and Gruben, presided at the Mass.

People kept coming throughout the service with beautiful bouquets of roses and vigil candles; soon the chapel was standing room only. After Mass there was the singing of the traditional Mañanitas and a variety of songs honoring Mary accompanied by a band.

Some of the people remained in the chapel praying and singing while others went to the Guild Hall for refreshments including tamales, hot chocolate, cookies, and pastries. The vigil ended around 2:00 AM when the last people went home.
