The community anticipated the Day of the Recollection (Dec. 5), holding a Sunday afternoon program entitled "Recollect Anniversaries". Several of our Recollect brothers from St. Cloud in West Orange and St. John in the Bronx came to Tagaste for the 4:00 PM commemoration. Fr. Frank Wilder, subprior, acted as Master of Ceremonies for the occasion, and Fra. Sergio Bañuelos decorated the fireplace room where the program was held and directed the music, which consisted mostly of Augustinian hymns.
The program included: "The 400th Anniversary of the first recollect mission to the Philippines" by Fra. Juan Jose Guzman; "The 100th Anniversary of the death of St. Ezekiel Moreno" by Fra. Jorge Mateos; and "The 1st Anniversary of the Cause for Beatification and Canonization of Bishop Alphonse Gallegos" by Fr. John Gruben. Fr. Wilder than offered congratulations to Fr. Moriones for his "anniversaries"-96 years old and 80 years as a professed religious. The program concluded with words of thanks from the prior, Fr. Gaitan. All then enjoyed a turkey dinner with lots of side dishes and desserts.
