On March 12, 2005 the Secular Augustinian Recollects of the Eastern Region held their annual Lenten Day of Recollection and the celebration of St. Joseph's Table. Fr. Fredric Abiera, a former Tagaste seminarian, ordained in May 2003, now stationed at St. John's Church in the Bronx, gave the first talk. Fr. Abiera spoke of the Eucharist: Its importance as well as the necessity of receiving it as the food for life. Deacon Matthew Alejo, currently a seminarian at Tagaste gave the second talk using St. Augustine's view of the Eucharist, weaving the grain of wheat and the crushed grape into the historic aspect of the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ.
Fr. Charles Huse, said Mass for us. SAR member, Deacon Bill Tobin assisted Fr. Charles. This was the first time Deacon Bill assisted at Mass since his retirement from St. Margaret's Church, Pearl River.
After the Mass the annual St. Joseph's Table was celebrated. St. Joseph is the Patron of Tagaste and the protector of our Order. This gave all the SAR's and the friars of Tagaste a chance to catch up with each other and renew friendships. It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all. Even the weather cooperated.
